Council Meetings

Westgate-On-Sea Town Council Council Meetings

Council meetings are open to the public wherever possible.

The agenda allows for the meeting to adjourn for fifteen minutes for the public to participate.  If you wish to speak at a council meeting or have a question to address to the council please do so in writing by close of business on the Friday prior to the meeting.  Please give as much information as you can if you would like an answer during the meeting.  It may not always be possible to answer questions at the meeting and if this is the case you will receive a response in writing from the Town Clerk after the meeting.

Westgate-on-Sea operates a committee, steering group and working group system where it delegates its functions to various committees/steering and working groups in order to expedite the business of the council.

The Full Council meets once a month, usually on the second Wednesday, with the exception of August when the Council is in recess.  Full Council has the overall authority on the business of the Council.

The Finance and General Purposes Committee meets bi-monthly. Its primary purpose is to manage the Council's financial resources and to guide the Council on its strategy and action on policy and operational matters concerned with Council's finances, property, resources, land and manpower.

The Planning, Highways & Environment Committee meets monthly and considers responses to planning applications and responds to the local planning authority with the views of the corporate body.  The Committee also recommends strategy and action on any matters related to the general environment of the Town.

The Human Resources Committee meets bi-monthly and its primary purpose is to manage human resources for the Council, debate and recommend on policy and operational matters in relation to the Council's Human Resources.

The Events, Tourism & Developments Steering Group usually meets monthly.  Its primary purpose is to promote Westgate-on-Sea as a tourism destination, organise local events and to encourage local groups, clubs and community organisations to work in collaboration with the Town Council.

The Allotments Working Group meets bi-monthly and considers any issues relating to the management of land facilities within the boundary of the Allotment Gardens.

Each year the Council approves its 'Standing Orders'.  These are the rules that the council must abide by and prescribes how the council will transact its business.
